Die EP Gas Glockenkolben erzeugen einen Volumenstrom, der auf die SI-Einheiten Länge und Zeit rückführbar ist. Die Kolben werden über eine Spindel von einem Schrittmotor angetrieben. Im Ausgangszustand ist ein Kolben voll ein- und der andere voll ausgefahren. Über den Kolbenquerschnitt und die Verfahrgeschwindigkeit kann der Volumenstrom hochpräzise eingestellt werden. Am Ende des Kalibriervorgangs befinden sich beide Kolben in entgegengesetzter Position zur Ausgangslage.
